Melanesia is a region of Oceania that includes the island countries of Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. Due to unique prehistoric migrations and subsequent isolation, Melanesians have distinct genetic traits, including incidence of blond hair (which is very rare among native populations outside of Europe).
